An appeals court sentenced a 60-year-old man to 15 years in prison for stabbing and killing a local resident for admonishing him.

According to the legal community today (11th), the Jeju Criminal Division 1 of the Gwangju High Court (Chief Judge Lee Gyeong-hoon) overturned the original judgment sentenced to 10 years in prison in the appeals trial against Mr. A (67), who was arrested and charged with murder and other charges. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and ordered to attach an electronic tracking device (electronic anklet) for 10 years.

Mr. A was drinking with Mr. B, a resident of an apartment at a convenience store in Ora 2-dong, Jeju-si, around 1 am on July 11 last year.

After the crime, Mr. A ran away from the scene on a motorcycle, and after a while, a resident who visited a convenience store found Mr. B lying down and reported it to the police.

Mr. B was transferred to a nearby hospital with the help of the 119 ambulance, but he died of excessive bleeding around 2 am that day.

Afterwards, Mr. A surrendered after 8 hours of committing the crime, and in the police investigation, he stated, "When the victim B spoke as if he were admonishing him, he committed the crime because he thought he was ignoring him."

It turned out that he had a number of violent crimes from 1974 to this crime, and in 2014, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison for attempted murder by wielding a weapon while arguing with an acquaintance who was drinking with himself. It turned out that he had served time.

In response, the prosecution sought 20 years in prison for Mr. A, saying, "I was punished with a similar history in the past, and intentionality is recognized in the light of the crime method."

Mr. A, who stood in court, said, "I was always close to the victim and he was a friend with whom I could talk. If I had really been patient at that time, this kind of accident would not have happened."

The first trial judge, who looked at this, sentenced him to 10 years in prison, pointing out that he "committed a number of violent crimes, and among them, the history of being sentenced to imprisonment reaches 10 times."

Afterwards, the appellate court said, "It is acknowledged that the defendant admitted to his charges and appeared to be reflecting, that the defendant accidentally committed the crime while drinking with the victim, and that he surrendered to the investigative agency after the crime."

However, the reason for the sentencing of 15 years in prison was that "the defendant committed the crime by bringing a weapon from his residence despite having been punished for attempted murder in the past, and the sentence of the lower court was too light in view of the fact that the bereaved family pleaded for strict punishment." revealed.
