A man in his 50s who stole jewelry by threatening a jewelry designer to kill his granddaughter and his gang were booked by the police.

Jongno Police Station in Seoul booked four people per day on charges of special robbery, including Mr. A, who kidnapped and threatened jewelry designer B in his 60s and stole jewels worth 700 billion won.

According to the police, Mr. A, who introduced himself as an asset worth 1 trillion won in July of last year, went to the house of Mr. B in Miryang, Gyeongsangnam-do and suggested, "Let's do a 'goldsmith-related export and import business' together."

Mr. A will give 10 billion won as a deposit for the business, and he asked for jewels worth 20 billion won, such as water drop sapphires and prenite jewels, that Mr. B had.

Afterwards, they called Mr. B to a bank in Gangnam-gu, Seoul to give him the deposit he promised in November of last year, deceived him by pretending to deposit 10 billion won into the account, and then changed the money into a check and withdrew it.

In addition, they forcibly took Mr. B to his home in Miryang, South Gyeongsang Province, and threatened to "kill his granddaughter with the poison needle used to kill Kim Jong-nam, the brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un." He fled with billions worth of gemstones.

Mr. B explained, "All of the jewels were appraised by a private jewel appraiser in the market."

A police official said, "We are investigating by securing CCTV and other data at the time of the theft," and "We are going to call Mr. A to find out the exact details of the crime."
