Last year, it was found that the proportion of male students among students enrolled in commerce and business majors at top universities in Seoul increased significantly.

In the past, there were only a few female students in the College of Engineering, so there was a term called 'Areum of Engineering', but now it seems that 'Areum of Sanggyeong University' can come out.

Looking at last year's freshmen data from six universities in Seoul, the number of male students majoring in business and economics increased by up to 1.4 times in one year.

Yonsei University's Department of Economics had a male student ratio of 55% in 2021, rising to 63% last year, and Korea University's Department of Economics also increased its male student ratio from 65% to 72%.

The department of business administration, which generally had a high proportion of female students, was also reversed.

This phenomenon is a change that occurred with the introduction of the integrated liberal arts and science test.

This is because as science students were allowed to cross-apply for commerce departments at top universities, the so-called 'literature invasion' phenomenon took place.

It was found that the percentage of male students among students who received the first grade in mathematics in the 2022 school year was over 75%.

Regarding this, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho said, "I think we need to adjust the disadvantages of liberal arts students."
