night (the 3rd), a fire started from a car on a highway in Daegu and moved to the soundproof wall.

There were no casualties, but many people were greatly surprised. It is confirmed that this soundproof wall is also made of the same material as the 2nd Gyeongin Expressway soundproof tunnel, which suffered great fire damage last week.

This is TBC reporter Nam Hyo-joo.

On a dark night, a red flame engulfs the soundproof wall installed in the middle of the highway.

The sound barrier that burns with the vehicles lights up the road like daylight.

[Kim Tae-wan / Witness: The fire rides it (soundproof wall) and turns around, from above.

There was a fire in the 3rd lane, but something like melted oil on the soundproof wall fell toward the 2nd and 1st lanes.] The

fire broke out around 9:40 pm on the 3rd.

A fire from an SUV driving down the Daegu Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway quickly moved to the soundproof wall next to the road.

The driver and passenger escaped and there were no casualties, but 16 sections of soundproof walls around 64m were burned or lost, and traffic in both directions was restricted for about 30 minutes.

It is near the Bible Interchange where the fire broke out.

You can see that the soundproof wall that was crossing the lane was completely destroyed by the fire.

Traces of melting are clear everywhere as the embers fly up to the soundproof wall in the opposite lane.

The materials used for the soundproof wall that caught fire are plastics such as polymethyl methacrylate and PMMA, which are the same as the 2nd Gyeongin Expressway soundproof tunnel.

However, local governments and Korea Expressway Corporation are not properly aware of the current status of soundproof wall materials.

[Gong Ha-seong/Professor Wooseok University: Since the risk of fire always exists in soundproof walls, it is more important to use non-combustible materials such as tempered glass to secure fire safety than using combustible materials such as acrylic.]

Soundproof walls that spread fire well and soundproof tunnels are installed all over the road, increasing drivers' anxiety.
