Two months have passed since the Itaewon Disaster Police Special Investigation Headquarters was launched, and it is difficult to expect further progress in the investigation.

Today (3rd), the special edition revealed that there would be few additional charges, implying that the so-called upper-level investigation, such as the police chief and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, would not proceed.

The Itaewon Disaster Special Investigation Headquarters was launched on November 1 of last year with the promise of an investigation without sanctuary.

The special edition sent four people, including Yongsan-gu Mayor Park Hee-young, to the prosecution today, assuming that the local government is responsible for the primary safety management even for events without an organizer.

Previously, Lee Im-jae, former chief of the Yongsan Police Station, and Song Byeong-ju, former chief of the Yongsan Police Station 112 Situation Department, were also sent, but no further progress was made.

The special edition said that the first investigation into the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and the Seoul Metropolitan Government was completed to some extent, but "in the current law, central administrative agencies and metropolitan governments are given abstract rights and duties, and there are not many past cases where negligence was held." explained.

It is interpreted to the effect that it may be difficult to hold legal responsibility to the so-called'upper line', such as Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon.

The handling of the new recruit, Kim Gwang-ho, who was summoned and investigated twice for not taking appropriate safety measures, such as the deployment of the riot police, is still unconfirmed.

An official from the Special Investigation Division revealed the end of the investigation on the Lunar New Year holiday, 20 days later, and said, "The investigation into the cause of the accident has been completed, and there are few additional cases."

The special version has been searched and seized by the police chief and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's office only a week after the investigation began, and the arrest warrant for the person in charge of the scene was dismissed, raising questions about the will and power of the investigation.

Meanwhile, as the government recognized a teenage survivor who made an extreme choice last month as the dead, the total number of victims of the Itaewon disaster increased to 159.
