From today (the 2nd) on the first Monday of 2023, all people coming to Korea from China must go through stricter quarantine procedures than before.

This is because China, where the corona is still spreading, is widening the door to foreign travel.

Let's connect with our reporter out of Incheon Airport to hear how your day went in detail.

Reporter Shin Yong-shik, first of all, how many people from China came to Korea today?

<Reporter>

Yes, the place behind me is the waiting room where immigrants from China are waiting for the PCR test results.

By 5pm today, 718 people have arrived from China via 8 flights.

Of these, 208 were classified as short-term residents and underwent PCR testing, and 13 were confirmed.

Exact statistics will come out tomorrow, as there are over 100 people whose test results have not been released, and the last flight from Shanghai arrived about an hour ago.

The confirmed entrants were moved to an isolation facility near the airport.

From the 5th, you can board the aircraft by receiving a voice confirmation in advance.

[Sagong Il/Immigrant from China: In the past, quarantine or something like that was so severe on the Chinese side, so I don't have that much resistance to being tested or waiting.]

The year has changed and today is the first day of implementation, but there is no confusion at the airport. didn't you?

<Reporter>

There is still room for up to 550 people a day to be tested at three airport inspection stations.

From September to December of last year, the number of arrivals from China, including both Koreans and long-term residents, was an average of 1,100 per day, and it was almost the same today.

However, since it was the first day of implementation, there was confusion as passengers from other countries joined when entrants from China were guided to the inspection site.

Prime Minister Han Deok-soo and Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Ji Young-mi said they would protect the public with utmost vigilance after touring the PCR test sites in the afternoon.
