The information, revealed by the Belgian media

, was confirmed on December 30 by
TechCrunch
.
We do not know the details of the operation but according to
De Tijd,
Meta would have bought Luxexcel for a significant sum.
“We are delighted that the Luxexcel team has joined [us], deepening the existing partnership between the two companies,” said a spokesperson for the group.
Develop new smart glasses
The parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has already been working with Luxexcel for several years.
This small Belgian-Dutch company, based in the Netherlands, specializes in smart glasses.
In particular, it develops 3D printed corrective lenses and works on smart lenses.
Meta thus confirms with this acquisition its ambitions in terms of virtual and augmented reality.
In September 2021, the American group released the Ray-Ban Stories, smart glasses capable of taking photos, videos and making calls.
The first model in a long line, if we are to believe the group's projects.
