The calligraphy style of grandmothers in Chilgok-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, who learned Hangeul belatedly, is gaining great popularity.

It even appeared on the President's New Year's card.

President Yoon Seok-yeol sent New Year's cards to seniors from all walks of life and men of national merit on the occasion of the first New Year after his inauguration.

On this New Year's card, it is written, "The above typeface was created with the typeface of the elderly Kwon Anja, who learned calligraphy in a Korean class in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do at the late age of 76."

Chilgok-gun created a typeface called 'Chilgok Grandma Font' in December 2020 to preserve the handwriting of grandmothers who first learned Hangeul through adult literacy classes for the elderly.

On Hwangnidan-gil, Gyeongju-si, a large font made with the Chilgok Halmae font was hung, and it was officially installed in Hancom Office and MS Office programs.

It is said that the grandmothers practiced writing on 2,000 sheets of paper for four months each to make fonts.
