• Discover the concept of IPTV

Until ten years ago, we used traditional television, which transmits its signal by cable or via satellite antennas.

We then speak of hertzian or satellite television.

But today, everything has changed thanks to the emergence of Internet streaming and broadcasting systems, of which IPTV is a part.

What is IPTV?

IPTV (acronym for Internet Protocol Television) is the system for watching TV channels through our internet signal.

From the user's point of view, IPTV is therefore about accessing television through your internet connection, and no longer using a fiber optic cable or via satellite, as it would be the case with television called “traditional”.

You may already be using IPTV technology without knowing it!

Indeed, Prime video, Canal +, HBO, Netflix or even RMC Sport are players who use VOD, a concept based on the IPTV system. This mode of television transmission over the Internet has become popular in France, because it allows you to watch any content from your PC, mobile or Smart TV.

How does IPTV work?

IPTV works thanks to a television decoder which is sent by the operator with which you have contracted the service (Free, Bouygues, Orange, SFR, etc.).

This device connects to your television and your box, then creates a private network which contacts the operator, who will send you all the television content via the Internet.

The operator with whom you have contracted this box specifically reserves a certain amount of bandwidth for IPTV.

In this way, the signal of the content is not cut off or suffers any reduction in quality.

With the IPTV decoder, in addition to accessing content, you can record programs or save them in the device's memory.

In addition, the system allows you to access content stored in memory in the box: this is what is commonly called “replay”.

Of course, you can also watch TV in the traditional way, without connecting to the Internet (with the decoder turned on to receive the signal).

What is the difference between IPTV and normal TV?

First of all, since the companies that offer IPTV reserve an amount of bandwidth, this ensures that the transmission of the channels is always of good quality.

However, this is not always the case with traditional television which, due to interference or weather problems, can suffer cuts or a loss of signal quality.

Also, with IPTV, you are no longer dependent on a cable to receive the signal.

This means that you can watch TV from any device: smartphone, tablet, computer... You no longer have to stay in the living room to enjoy your favorite shows.

Another advantage of IPTV is the ability to record programs, save content to the decoder and rewind live programs.

Traditional television does not allow its functionalities, it simply offers to attend the live of each channel.

Are IPTV lists legal?

Most IPTV services are legal: Molotov TV, HBO, Prime Video, OCS, Salto, Disney+, Netflix…etc.

These channels offer their services through different types of paid subscriptions.

Of course, you can also access traditional channels completely legally, via an IPTV box from a classic telecom operator.

However, there are also cases of illegal uses of the IPTV service.

These are channels containing pirated content, from legal paid platforms.

In this case, a user shares content via P2P technology (the one used by pirate platforms like Ares, Emule or Torrent).

The main problem with these IPTV channels is that they are illegal and may pose a risk of computer viruses.

Moreover, even if their price may seem more attractive than that of traditional offers, in reality, these platforms face problems of consequent slowness, as well as partial shortages of content.
