Today (29th), a big fire broke out on the 2nd Gyeongin Expressway in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do.

The fire started in a truck passing through the soundproof tunnel, and flames and smoke quickly spread into the narrow tunnel.

Five people died and nearly 40 were injured in the accident.

At around 1:50 in the afternoon today, a fire broke out in the soundproof tunnel near the North Uiwang IC of the 2nd Gyeongin Expressway in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do.



The fire first started in a recycling waste collection truck running on the highway, and it is estimated that it spread to the opposite lane as it moved to the ceiling of the tunnel in an instant after the engine overheated.

fire authorities issued the second stage of response within 30 minutes of the report, , By mobilizing about 200 manpower and 90 pieces of equipment, the fire was completely extinguished at around 4:10 pm.

Most of the soundproof tunnels over 500m were burnt to the point where it was difficult to recognize the shape, and the accident vehicle remains as it is.



A total of 46 vehicles were burned.



Among them, 5 people were found dead in 4 vehicles, and 37 people were taken to the hospital with large and small injuries.



The police estimate that the second collision occurred in the opposite lane and the number of deaths increased as the narrow tunnel was filled with smoke and visibility was not secured.
