Lee Bong-ju, chairman of the Cargo Solidarity Headquarters of the Public Transport Workers Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, stopped a hunger strike in front of the National Assembly due to deteriorating health.

It has been 17 days since the indefinite hunger strike on the 12th of this month, urging the passage of the bill to extend the safe freight rate.

According to the Cargo Solidarity, Chairman Lee stopped fasting at around 9:30 am today (29th) and was moved to a nearby hospital.

According to the doctor's judgment that it is dangerous to continue fasting for health reasons, the temporary central executive committee of the cargo union decided the night before.

The union said, "Chairman Lee was advised to stop fasting several times from the 14th day of fasting because his weight decreased to around 30 kg and his blood sugar dropped rapidly."

On behalf of Chairman Lee, Park Hae-cheol, senior vice chairman of the Public Transport Workers' Union, continues the hunger strike from this day.

The amendment to the Lorry Transportation Business Act, which contains the content of extending the safe fare system, was rejected at the plenary session on the 28th amid sharp confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties.
