Failing technology?

Many emergency call centers in the United States have recently received erroneous alerts issued by iPhone 14. In question, the accident detection functionality, reports

Apple's smartphone has a tool that emits an audible alert in the event of an accident.

The user has 20 seconds to react and turn it off, otherwise the phone will automatically contact the emergency services indicating its GPS position.

But this technology, which saves lives, would confuse a road accident with a ski descent!

An update in development

Several American rescue centers, particularly in Utah, have recently reported having received numerous daily alerts from iPhone 14 or Apple Watch.

But no emergency was behind these automatic calls: the devices confused the descents at high speed and powder braking of the ski slopes with accidents.

The phenomenon is not new: in the past, alerts have already been launched by iPhones while their user was having fun on a roller coaster or in a thrill ride.

Apple has already assured that it was working on an update of the system to avoid these erroneous calls and advises, in the meantime, to put its device in airplane mode before embarking on the snowy slopes.
