Police have arrested a gang that made hundreds of millions of won in criminal proceeds by distributing hundreds of thousands of sexual videos and movies with servers overseas.
The Cybercrime Investigation Unit of the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency announced on the 28th that it is investigating by arresting two people, including site operator A (40s), and detaining developer B (20s) on charges of distributing obscene material on information and communication networks and violating copyright laws.
Mr. A and others are accused of operating 15 illegal streaming sites based on overseas servers for about two years from January 2020, and distributing 260,000 pieces of content, including illegal sex videos and Korean dramas and movies, without permission.
In addition, he is also accused of taking unfair advantage of 370 million won in advertising revenue in exchange for posting gambling site advertisements on this site.
As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that Mr. B received a commission from Mr. A to create an illegal website through Telegram, and received 220 million won in criminal proceeds in exchange for building and managing the site.
In particular, it was confirmed that they had built a server overseas to avoid being tracked by investigative agencies, and had been operating the illegal site for a long time, managing and operating it meticulously, such as exchanging contacts only through Telegram.
The police arrested Mr. A and his gang after a persistent investigation from June of last year.
All 15 sites operated by them were closed.
In addition, they applied for pre-indictment collection preservation for 590 million won in criminal proceeds they earned.
