The 69-year-old man, suspected of having killed three Kurds and injured three other people on Friday in Paris and who recognized a "pathological hatred of foreigners", was indicted on Monday and imprisoned, said a judicial source.

The suspect, a retired train driver of French nationality, was indicted by an investigating judge for murder and attempted murder on the grounds of race, ethnicity, nation or religion, as well as for acquisition and unauthorized possession of a weapon, the source said.

Decision in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution

The suspect was then placed in pre-trial detention by a judge of freedoms and detention (JLD), in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution, according to the judicial source.

A "hatred of foreigners that has become pathological"

The suspect, massive and heavy build, was arrested on Friday shortly after opening fire with a handgun in the rue d'Enghien, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, in front of a Kurdish cultural center.

He killed three Kurds and injured three other men.

While in police custody, he admitted to investigators that he felt a "hatred of foreigners that had become completely pathological" since a burglary at his home in 2016.

On the morning of the events, he first went armed to Saint-Denis in Seine-Saint-Denis to "kill foreigners" but finally gave up for lack of people and lack of ease to reload his weapon because of his outfit clothing, according to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau.
