The warrant review for Yongsan-gu Mayor Park Hee-young and Yongsan-gu Office Safety and Disaster Division Chief Choi will be held tomorrow at 2:00 pm at the Seoul Western District Court.

They are the first local government officials to be recruited by the police in connection with the Itaewon disaster.

[Park Hee-young/Chief of Yongsan-gu, Seoul (29th of last month): (Why did you say you didn't know the seriousness of the scene on the day of the disaster?)...

.]

The police special investigation headquarters reported that the two people neglected to prepare safety accident prevention measures for the Halloween festival and caused the disaster, and applied charges of manslaughter on the job.

The special edition also added charges of dereliction of duty for Chief Choi, who did not appear at the scene after drinking with acquaintances from daytime on the day of the disaster.

[Mr. Choi / Head of Safety and Disaster Department, Yongsan-gu Office, Seoul (Last 12th): (There was a suspicion that he had a private drinking party from daytime on the day of the disaster. What would you think?)…

.]

The charge of dereliction of duty is admitted when you consciously did not do what you had to do, and the special edition secured strong circumstances to prove the charge.

Through CCTV analysis, it was confirmed that after 11:00 pm on the day of the disaster, when relief work was in full swing, Chief Choi, who had been contacted by a ward office employee and took a taxi to the vicinity of Noksapyeong Station, which was close to the disaster site, turned around and returned home.

The special edition judges that it is a decisive circumstance that proves that Chief Choi consciously evaded responsibility.

Chief Choi said in a phone call with SBS, "She drank too much on the day of the accident, so I don't remember it well."
