Five students were sentenced to death in the appeals court for harassing their classmates and forcing them to make extreme choices.



Today (22nd), the 1st Criminal Division of the Gwangju High Court (Presiding Judge Lee Seung-cheol) held an appeal trial for six perpetrators accused of violating the Act on Punishment, such as Violence (joint assault).



Previously, in June of last year, victim A made an extreme choice in Gwangju Eodeungsan Mountain, leaving a suicide note implying school violence, saying, "Please be sad for a week."



A video of him being abused by classmates was found on A's cell phone, and after that, A's family reported the school violence to the police based on the video and suicide note left behind.



Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station, which investigated the case, arrested 2 out of 11 offender students, booked 9 without detention, and sent them to the prosecution with an opinion of indictment.



Harsh acts, such as strangling Group A until he fainted, were applied as the main charges against them.

In the first trial held in June, which entered the first cycle of group A's death, the fact that the perpetrators continued to assault despite the dissuade of the students in the same class and the video of group A losing consciousness were shared in the SNS group room, and group A's younger brother and girlfriend Sexual harassment was also revealed.



Accordingly, the court of first instance sentenced Groups B and C, who severely harassed Group A, to 3 years long term, 2 years short term, and 2 years long term to 1 year short term, respectively. .



The first trial judge criticized, "As if the defendants did not know how much their actions made the victims suffer and collapse, they still came to court and said, 'It was a game. Male students can do that' and are trying to reduce responsibility."



The appellate court also said, "It was dismissed as an acceptable behavior among male students, and the victim was assaulted and made a laughing stock."



However, he said, “We took into account the fact that some acknowledged and reflected on their crimes and the fact that they were deposited in civil lawsuits.” For Group B, a long term of 2 years and 6 months, a short term of 2 years, and the two people who harassed the victim several times along with him were also given a long term of 1 each. The sentences were commuted to 6 months a year, 8 months short term, 1 year 6 months short term, and 1 year short term.
