Tomorrow (21st) between dawn and morning, a lot of snow will be poured around the central inland, such as northern Gyeonggi.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has repeatedly asked people to use public transportation on their way to work tomorrow.

From the 22nd to the 24th, Christmas Eve, there will be a lot of snow again in Chungcheong, Honam, and Jeju.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration today, as the pressure trough passes through the northern part of Korea along the jet stream in the upper atmosphere, snow or rain will fall across the country from dawn to morning tomorrow.

As a result, a heavy snow warning is expected to be issued tomorrow morning in the metropolitan area, Yeongseo, Gangwon-do, northern Chungbuk, northern Gyeongbuk, and mountainous areas of Jeju.

This time, as the snow cloud belt develops high up to an altitude of 3 km or more, it is expected that heavy snow will fall that accumulates well on the ground.

Northern Gyeonggi, eastern Gyeonggi, inland Gangwon, mountainous areas of Gangwon, and mountainous areas of Jeju will have 5 to 10 cm of snow tomorrow.

In particular, snowfall is expected to exceed 15 cm in northern Gyeonggi and inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon.

Seoul, Incheon, southwestern Gyeonggi, central Chungbuk, northern Chungbuk, and northern Gyeongbuk inland snowfall amount is 2 to 8 cm, Chungcheong (excluding central and northern parts), eastern Jeonbuk, inland central Gyeongbuk, inland southern Gyeongbuk, inland western Gyeongnam, inland West Sea, and 5 provinces are 1 Expected to be ~3 cm.

The snowfall variable is the 'shape of snowfall with temperature'.

Based on Seoul, considering the ground temperature, it is expected that it will snow from dawn to around 9 am, and from thereafter to noon, it will rain and snow with relatively little accumulation.

As the form of snowfall changes with slight temperature differences, it is expected that the snowfall amount will vary greatly by region.

'Freezing rain' may fall in the inland areas of Chungcheong and southern areas.

Freezing rain is 'rain that falls as water droplets although the temperature is below zero' and freezes as soon as it touches the ground below freezing to form thin ice.

Pure water with no impurities can remain 'supercooled' without freezing even below zero.

After it snows tomorrow, cold air will move south and freeze the accumulated snow.

Roads can turn into icy roads, so be prepared.

From the 22nd, a cold wave will appear across the country as cold air with a temperature of -45 degrees below zero occupies the upper atmosphere at an altitude of 5 km.

As the cold air with high density sinks to the ground, the wind blows strongly and the perceived temperature will be much lower than the air temperature.

Due to the cold wind, snow clouds will be created in the West Sea, and a lot of snow will pour in Chungnam, Honam, and Jeju from the morning of the 22nd to the 24th.

It is expected that the mechanism and amount of snow that fell in these areas on the 17th and 18th will be similar.

If the cold air passes through the pressure trough as it descends southward, snow cloud belts can cross the coast and move deep into the interior.

In addition, it is currently expected that the intensity of the cold air descending south from the afternoon of the 24th will weaken, but if the situation develops unexpectedly, there is a possibility of a 'White Christmas'.

From the end of last month, as the vortex surrounding the North Pole continues to be in a weak 'negative Arctic Oscillation' state, the cold air from the Arctic that has descended to low latitudes is trapped between the barometric ridge developed in the Bering Sea and the Ural Mountains, creating a cyclonic circulation. A cold wave is appearing due to the influx of cold air.

The negative Arctic Oscillation is expected to continue through the end of the month.

It is necessary to prepare thoroughly because the damage can accumulate as a lot of snow falls during the cold wave.
