As the Artemis mission continues and NASA prepares for its conquest of Mars, the reasons that push astronauts to go into space still remain abstract for many people.

However, many objects that we use every day were invented thanks to the technologies used for space missions.

Return to the Moon, exploration of Mars... It may seem abstract and yet, each mission brings its share of innovations.

And among these finds imagined up there, some have come down to Earth and accompany you in your daily life.

solutions for osteoporosis

Cordless devices, drills, vacuum cleaners were born with the Apollo missions, when it was necessary to invent a tool to take pieces of rock on the Moon, without an electrical outlet within reach.

The mattresses that adapt to the shape of the body are made with the same materials as the seats of rockets, invented to relieve pressure during liftoff.

But research, in particular in the International Space Station, has also made it possible to find solutions against osteoporosis.

"You know quite simply, when you walk, you have little bumps on your heels, and that, through fairly complex mechanisms in the human body, stimulates the creation of bone. So we can develop little systems that allow you to tapping on the heels of bedridden people to regenerate the skeleton and reduce osteoporosis problems", explains Lionel Suchet, deputy director general of the National Center for Space Studies.

The space station is also a laboratory to think about ways to slow down aging since in space, the body ages in an accelerated way.
