• MUSIC The return of DJ Nano: "We are not going to earn a single euro with the party"

  • LEISURE El Oro Viejo by DJ Nano or the great Madrid Christmas party

It is the

party of the year

.

And no one wants to miss it.

The only event capable of bringing together the most disparate generations with

dance music

as an excuse.

Those in their twenties discovered DJ Nano playing live from his house in the pandemic, along with his ET doll.

From the age of 40 to almost 60, they have been accompanying him since the beginning, playing in the Sala Arena, which was one of the

most emblematic nightclubs in

the capital.

The great tribute to electronica

Oro Viejo, like the nougat, fills the dance floor again for Christmas

.

On December 10 and 17, it celebrates its 20 years of success at Ifema, finally without restrictions and returning to the numbers of 2019. "We have not hit a

ball

and then disappear. It is a party that everyone recognizes for the great affection that has been put into it from the beginning, taking care of all the details", says DJNano, 45 years old, excited, who still hasn't quite gotten used to the fact that the tickets sell out as soon as he leaves.

"The last few times we had to open a second date because one was not enough and they asked us for it, so this time we have released two Old Gold at once and thus

avoid resale problems

. The great production team that I have allows us, even if it's a great job", admits the DJ, whose restless mind devised the

show

back in 2002, from a collection of vinyl that he loved.

THE BEGINNINGS OF THE PARTY

One of the first Oro Viejo parties two decades ago at the Fabrik de Humanes nightclub in Madrid.EM

"It was called Old Gold and it brought back some of the techno-pop stuff from the '80s."

That's where the name of the party came from, which he Spanishized.

"It made me very angry that those records that I played before

would stay in a suitcase collecting dust

and would not be heard again."

It started in a nightclub in Coslada, the Paladium room, with hardly any means.

"I worked as promoter and artistic director of the Splass night session, where I was a resident. I already remember the first edition with

a great reception

, and that is nothing comparable to today, but its start was very nice and the people He understood the philosophy from the first moment:

music that was no longer used to be played

so as not to stop dancing and singing", he slides.

Antonio Carrascosa, 42, remembers his youth in that disco.

"I imagine DJ Nano as a grandfather and with tacatá still having the party," he jokes.

"He's not on the wrong track," laughs the artist, who can't imagine doing anything else.

"I've been DJing for more than 25 years, close to 30, and with this party for two decades, but

I maintain the same energy

, or more if possible, and the event is experiencing the best time in its history."

He has a long way to go because the public always responds very well: "That mixture with such a wide age range

and the same predisposition to have a good

time is very curious ," he sums up.

In fact, it is said in gossip that personalities like Queen Letizia and politicians like Isabel Díaz Ayuso are big fans of DJ Nano.

"Well, famous or not, in the end we are all people and

Oro Viejo has that magic that social class does not matter

and it is not even necessary that you particularly like electronic music. You know that if you go you will live an unforgettable night of fun," he admits with the humility that characterizes him.

His friends, the actor Maxi Iglesias or the former motorcycle racer Fonsi Nieto never miss it, in fact.

Neither have her great colleagues, DJ Marta, DJ Neil, Abel the Kid & Raúl Ortiz, Sofía Cristo and many others, whom she has added to this sustained growth.

Many Old Gold have been part of

the main stage

building those solid foundations that have taken the brand outside the clubs to huge venues like the WiZink Center.

From the slums to the pure concert.

"When it was held in Fabrik, there came a point where the capacity did not allow me to gather all the people who wanted to come.

It is the most powerful party in Madrid

and it shows that even Ifema has become too small for us and we have had to do two dates to house the 12,500 people who will come every day".

Of course, a very loyal audience to the show.

A TOMORROWLAND

He talked about it with artist friends who have been around longer than him.

He enjoys like the first day and is proud to make people forget their problems for a few hours releasing endorphins.

"It's very nice that

he supports and understands your show

in this way."

He doesn't skimp.

A whole display of equipment, including lighting, sound engineers, production, administration... "Making Old Gold has many costs that I could lower to make money but it's not what I'm looking for.

Constantly investing in the brand

is one of the secrets. It's clear that the main show is the music, but every year there is an evolution and we give something new", he confesses.

Surprisingly, the repertoires are not prepared.

"I never know what records I'm going to play."

The tables allow you to be

a king of improvisation

.

Only the three cuts that the event has are studied to present videos that give the public goosebumps and make them smile.

The ending theme, John Wesley's

Lover Why

, is also not negotiated.

From the beginning it was the closing soundtrack.

"Look, I also do Old Gold at the A Summer Story festival in the City of Rock, which becomes 12 hours of DJing, and when the end is played,

people keep asking for another and another

. If it were up to them, they would be dancing for 12 days", account between laughs.

He mixes with the public and gets "every last hair on end".

Especially after the pandemic.

That's why he's working on turning Oro Viejo into a kind of

Tomorrowland, the world's biggest

four-day camping festival held every summer in Boom, Belgium.

"It'll be here soon," he promises.
