• The French firm monbento is launching its MB Warner, a heated bento box that allows you to warm up your homemade meals at work.

  • Practical and efficient, the device requires 15 to 35 minutes to bring your food to the right temperature.

  • Sold for 119 euros, it only lacks a removable tank for more convenience of use.

Subway, work, bento!

Tired of choosing between the cold sandwich and the queue in the microwave at lunchtime at the office?

Solution: MB Warmer, from monbento!

This small nomadic device that 20 Minutes was able to test offers to heat up all your cooked meals when you are on the move.

15 to 35 minutes to get to the table

Available in three colors (black, pink and green), the MB Warner from monbento (a French brand created in 2009) weighs 802 grams and can easily slip into a bag.

Currently sold for 99.90 euros (instead of 119.90 euros), this heated bento box plugs into the mains, but can also be combined with a car charging cable (optional, sold for 14.90 euros).

With a capacity of 700 ml, its bowl is enough to contain a substantial dish, as we have seen.

All you have to do is put the food in it when you go to work, the hermetic lid of the bento box ensuring perfect insulation, even in somewhat hectic transport, if you go to work by bike, for example.

At mealtime, simply plug the bento into the mains, then choose one of the heating programs offered using the button on the front.

Your choice: 15 minutes for small portions;

25 minutes for medium quantities and 35 minutes for more generous dishes.

This is obviously much longer than with a microwave oven.

It is therefore necessary to remember to start the heating before the time of your break... An operation which can be delicate if you are in the car.

When ready, the three green LEDs on the front of the device will flash green.

No more complicated.

At the right temperature

Tested several times during a week, the MB Warner is a very practical device.

Of a very beautiful manufacture, it can also resist the small shocks caused in its displacement.

Designed without BPA (bisphenol A), it is equipped with a metal bowl that guarantees evenly distributed heat.

The dishes that we reheated (such as Cantonese rice, or a fricassee of poultry and vegetables) were all at the right temperature when it was time to eat.

No removable bowl

Things get a little complicated when it comes to washing the dishes.

The tank of MB Warner not being removable, it is necessary to pass the apparatus once disconnected under the tap.

It's a bit restrictive, especially if the tank is dirty, with dry residues.

Because if it is waterproof, the MB Warner cannot go in the dishwasher.

The seal of its cover can be extracted if necessary and easily cleaned.

Parade however: monbento offers stainless steel boxes (2 x 300 ml, or 1 x 670 ml) which can be slipped directly into the tank (sold from 19.90 euros)

Remains a device that gives satisfaction on the essentials and which also makes it possible to fight against disposable packaging, even if they are eco-designed.

The MB Warner is not alone in the field of heated bentos, however, where you can also find (and sometimes for a little less) double-decker bentos.

For a next generation, we would almost dream of a self-heating tank (like that of the Thermomix, which is dishwasher safe!) for more convenience.

Or even a connected heated bento box on which you could program the time you want to eat from an application.

In the meantime, the MB Warner also makes it possible to eat healthier.

It can also be recommended as part of a diet.

According to a study by Foodless, two thirds of French people think that eating well at the office is linked to well-being at work...
