A wildfire helicopter crashed in Hyeonbuk-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do, killing five people at the scene.

Two out of five fatalities are helicopter captains and copilots.

The other three deaths are a man in his 20s and two unidentified women.

These three people were confirmed through CCTV at a mooring in Sokcho, Gangwon-do, where the helicopter took off.

The helicopter model of the accident was the S-58T, a forest firefighting helicopter jointly leased by three cities and counties, including Sokcho, Goseong, and Yangyang.

At the time of the accident, it was confirmed that the helicopter took off from the Sokcho mooring at around 9:30 am and was broadcasting guidance to prevent forest fires.

Sokcho City explained that this year, a helicopter rental contract was signed from a private company and the helicopter was put into operation to prevent and extinguish forest fires in spring and autumn.
