Won Yoo-cheol, a former member of the United Future Party (predecessor of People's Power), who is serving a sentence after being sentenced for receiving tens of millions of won in back money, is released on parole.

Former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Gyeong-soo, who was predicted to be released on parole, did not pass this screening either.

According to the legal community, the Ministry of Justice held a parole review committee meeting at the Ministry of Justice building in Gwacheon today (23rd) at 4:30 pm, and then made a judgment that former lawmaker Won was eligible for parole.

Former lawmaker Won was indicted on charges of accepting 50 million won from a KOSDAQ-listed company in exchange for helping him obtain a loan from the Korea Development Bank in 2013 (according to the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Economic Crimes), etc., and was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison in July last year. .

Choi Heung-jip, the former president of Kangwon Land, who was involved in the suspicion of corruption in the recruitment of Kangwon Land, also passed the parole review.

Former CEO Choi was indicted for interfering with the interview work by giving high marks to the self-introduction letter of the person subject to the solicitation and 'customized hiring' (obstruction of business, coercion, etc.) and was sentenced to three years in prison in February this year.

Former Gyeongsangnam-do Governor Kim Gyeong-soo, who is serving a sentence in the 'Druking Comment Manipulation Case', was judged ineligible again and was released from prison.

Former Governor Kim passed more than 70% of his sentence last September and was eligible for parole review for the first time, but was judged ineligible.

It was judged that it was too early to grant him parole as former governor Kim's prison rate had just exceeded the standard.

If classified as ineligible, former governor Kim was not eligible for the review last month because he is excluded from the next month's review.

Former Governor Kim was accused of colluding with 'Druking' Dong-won Kim and manipulating public opinion using the automated program 'King Crab' to win the election of former President Moon Jae-in, who was then the Democratic Party's presidential candidate at the end of 2016.

He was sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial in January 2019, was arrested in court, and released on bail after 77 days, but in July of last year, the sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court and re-imprisoned in Changwon Prison.

Former Governor Kim's sentence expires on May 4 next year.
