A person in his 30s who produced and sold thousands of 'deepfake' videos for $30 per person per month was arrested and handed over to the prosecution, while the police are chasing the buyers who bought the video.



According to the Jeju Police Agency today (16th), a man in his 30s was arrested and sent to the prosecution on charges of producing and selling deepfake pornography (violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes and the Act on the Protection of Children and Adolescents). .



From August 2020 to October this year, Mr. A is accused of producing more than 3,000 videos that synthesized facial images of celebrities, children, and teenagers using deepfake technology in illegally downloaded pornography.



In addition, Mr. A sold the video to members recruited through the Telegram chat room for $30 per month (about 40,000 won) per person.



The 'deepfake' used by Mr. A refers to a video compilation that synthesizes a specific person's face or specific parts using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.



Accordingly, the police who arrested Mr. A are expanding their investigation to members who purchased the video he made.



A police official said, "We are investigating the members who purchased the deepfake videos sold on Telegram by Mr. A in turn."
