A man in his 40s who set fire to his multi-family house and killed two people has also been sentenced to eight years in prison on appeal.

Yesterday (7th), Suwon High Court Criminal Division 1 (High Court Judge Shin Sook-hee) announced that it had dismissed the appeal filed by Mr.

A is accused of setting fire to his room on the second floor of a multi-family house in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do around midnight on January 3, killing resident B, who lives on the fourth floor of the same building, and seriously injuring his wife.

At the time, Mr. A, who was pessimistic about his situation, set fire to clothes and blankets in his house to make an extreme choice, and the fire spread to the fourth floor of the building.

Mr and Mrs B, who lived on the fourth floor, fell to the ground while trying to escape the fire, killing Mr. B, and his wife was seriously injured, requiring treatment for 12 weeks.

On the other hand, it was revealed that Mr. A fled as the flames soared to the ceiling of the door.

Earlier, the trial court said, "The building where several people live was set on fire, resulting in one person dead and another seriously injured. This is inevitable.” He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

In response, Mr. A appealed against the judgment, saying, "The part where the accident occurred has no causal relationship with the defendant's actions, and there is no possibility that the defendant could have foreseen the damage."

However, the court of appeals did not accept A's argument.

The second trial court said, "It is difficult to conclude that the situation was urgent enough that the victims risked and jumped off the fourth floor. "There is this," he said.
