The first of two stages to the "German Car of the Year" has been completed.

The jury, made up of 27 motoring journalists, chose their five class winners, from which the winner will be determined after the test drives carried out in the past week.

Five vehicles can still hope for the title, whereby the Ferrari 296 GTB as winner of the "Performance" category has just as little realistic chance as the new Range Rover, which was ahead in the luxury car category.

The VW ID Buzz and the Opel Astra are likely to fight the battle among themselves, while the Genesis GV 60 has outsider chances. Genesis in the "Premium" category, which goes up to a base price of 60,000 euros.

Like the VW, the Genesis is also an electric car.

The Astra still wants to become one.

So far, battery cars have always come out on top in the election, which was held for the first time four years ago.

First the Porsche Taycan, then the Jaguar I-Pace, the small Honda E and finally the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Cars that came onto the market last year can be chosen.
