"Because a young man stood in front of an automatic teller machine (ATM) for a long time and kept putting in a 50,000 won bundle."

According to the police today (25th), Mr. A in his 70s, who went to collect money from an ATM in his apartment complex in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do on July 29th, witnessed a suspicious scene.

First of all, Mr. B in his 20s, who was using an ATM, put a black bag on the floor, took out 50,000 won bills one after another, and continued to send money.

When Mr. A waited in line outside the transparent booth, Mr. B said, "It will take a while, so please use it first" and left.

Standing in front of the ATM like that, what caught Mr. A's eyes was a bunch of suspicious receipts.

One million won was continuously being deposited under the same name, but the recipient was Chinese, not Korean.

Sensing that it was a phone financial scam (voice phishing), Mr. A took several receipts and went out of the booth and reported this to the nearby police box.

Mr. B, who continued to send money after Mr. A left, was arrested on the spot by the police.

B is a cash collector hired by a voice phishing organization, and it was found that he was receiving 30 million won from a woman in her 40s who was deceived by the words, 'I will give you a low-interest loan, so repay the existing loan in cash' to a designated account. .

It was also confirmed that the use of the ATM in the apartment complex where A lived as a remittance place was in accordance with the orders of the voice phishing organization.

The Gimpo Police Station arrested Mr. B on charges of fraud and returned the 21 million won confiscated at the scene to the victim.

Investigations such as account tracking are ongoing for the 9 million won that has already been transferred.

In addition, Mr. A will be selected as a 'phishing protector' and a certificate of commendation and report compensation will be awarded.

'Phishing Keeper' is a name given to citizens who have helped prevent voice phishing damage and arrest criminals.
