A part-time worker at a convenience store was caught by the police while stealing cash and goods worth 300,000 won within 5 minutes of starting work.

According to a media report on the 6th, a man who was hired as a part-time worker at a convenience store in Gangdong-gu, Seoul around 11 pm on the 27th of last month was caught by the owner of the store while committing theft.

On that day, the owner had a job with the original worker, so he urgently sought a part-time job.

Mr. A won the favor of the store owner, saying, "I worked for 2 years at a store directly managed by the head office. I have a lot of experience and will work hard."

The store owner, who believed his words and entrusted him with the work, was surprised when he checked the CCTV just in case.

The video showed a part-timer stealing goods and cash from the store.

Looking at the CCTV footage at the time, Mr. A, who was sitting on a chair inside the convenience store checkout counter and looking at his cell phone, suddenly took out a paper bag and put it on the counter and went out of the checkout counter.

Then, he took two mobile phone chargers sold at convenience stores, put them in his bag, took out a transportation card from his pants pocket, and charged 200,000 won.

The crime did not stop there.

This time he pulled out a black plastic bag and swept away all the cash in the safe.

It all happened within 5 minutes of Mr. A's start to work, and the amount of cash and goods he took was worth 300,000 won.

The owner caught this and immediately reported it to the police, and the part-timer was arrested as a current offender.

The owner said, "I was surprised to see the money put in a plastic bag. If I hadn't found it (in the CCTV video), I wouldn't have been able to sell anything the next morning and I would have lost my money."

In the police investigation, Mr. A is said to have stated, "It was because I couldn't get a job and had no living expenses."

In addition, it was confirmed that he received probation for the same offense in 2017 as well.

The police charged A with theft and handed it over to the prosecution.

On the other hand, theft is a crime that applies to the theft of someone else's property. If the crime of theft is found at the time of reporting, the person may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 6 years or a fine of not more than 10 million won in accordance with Article 329 of the Criminal Act.

However, theft is established when there is 'intentional intent' to steal someone's property and obtain it as one's own, or 'unlawful intent' to take someone else's property in an illegal way.
