During the Korean War, it was investigated that 124 civilians were killed by local leftists in Daedeok-eup, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do.

The 2nd Truth and Reconciliation Committee said that the incident, which took place in early September and early October, 1950, was led by left-wing forces in the region.

This happened at a time when the North Korean People's Army withdrew and just before it was restored to the ROK Army, the local leftists who knew the region were active.

The victims were many right-wing figures and their families, such as police officers and public officials and their families, and members of the Korean Youth Corps.

In some cases, families, including children, were slaughtered.

30% of the victims were children under the age of 15, and 37% were female by gender, the Hwahwa Wei reported.

The Truth and Reconciliation Committee classified this case as a 'sacrifice incident by hostile forces in Jangheung, Jeollanam-do (1)', and said that the truth of the incident was investigated in this way.

The Committee for Truth and Reconciliation recommended, "Even during the war, the State should make an official apology to the victims and their families for failing to fulfill its duty to protect the lives and freedoms of the people, resulting in the sacrifice of the people and damage to their families."
