The Barcelona pastry shop Canal has won for the third time the

Best Artisan Butter Croissant

Contest in Spain, organized by the Barcelona Pastry Guild.

His croissant has been imposed among a total of

54 participants

and has been the most valued by the jury, which has awarded him the prestigious award and a prize of 1,000 euros.

The Canal pastry shop,

founded in 1970 by Xavier Canal

and currently run by his nephew Lluís Estrada, has already won the Best Artisan Butter Croissant contest in 2016 and 2019.

With establishments in

Muntaner and Calvet streets in Barcelona

, ​​it has introduced innovation into tradition, making classic and contemporary pastries and pastries, as well as having a catering service.

In charge of the pastry shop is Toni Vera (Badalona, ​​1980), who began studying Chemistry until, practically by chance, he ended up training for five years at

Forn Bertran Mar,

in addition to Bubón and Comas, until arriving at Canal, where he has become a specialist in croissants.

The jury, made up of recognized pastry professionals, has tasted and scored the croissants presented taking into account the following criteria:

The contest aims to encourage and reward the knowledge and skills of artisan pastry chefs in a product as emblematic as the croissant, thus recognizing the quality of the country's artisan pastry.
