A group of herring cubs died on the beach of Masan Bay in Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, raising curiosity.

According to the city of Changwon, on the 30th of last month, the first report of a mass death of herring cubs was received in the sea in front of the marine drama set in Gusan-myeon, Masanhappo-gu.

A day later, herring cubs that died collectively were found in Doman Port and Dagu Port, Jindong-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, and the next day in the sea off Haeyangnuri Park.

The city of Changwon did a collection work to prevent marine pollution and odor.

There are various speculations about the cause of the mass death.

The city judged that 'this mass death is limited to young herring' and that 'it is different from the normal mass death pattern of fish due to marine water pollution, etc.'.

There is a possibility that a temporary change in sea surface water temperature or a large amount of young fish caught by fishing boats was thrown away.

Changwon City requested the Fisheries Research Institute to conduct a real-time marine environment measurement survey, while the dead herring was sent to the National Institute of Fisheries Science for detailed analysis.
