In 2014, the bereaved family of the late Private Yun Seung-ju, who died as a result of beatings and harsh acts by senior soldiers, lost the final loss in compensation to the state.

On the 29th of last month, the 3rd part of the Supreme Court upheld the judgment of the lower court, which acknowledged only Lee's liability for compensation, in the appeals trial of a compensation lawsuit filed by the family of Private Yoon's family against senior soldier Lee Mo and the Republic of Korea on the 29th of last month.

In accordance with the Act on Special Cases concerning Appeals Procedures, the Supreme Court confirms the judgment of the lower court without explaining the reason, unless there is a special reason, such as a serious violation of laws, in the lower court.

Private Yoon died at the end of 2013 after serving in a unit of the 28th Division of the Yeoncheon Army, Gyeonggi-do, after suffering beatings and harsh actions by senior soldiers.

The main culprit, Lee, was found guilty of murder by the Supreme Court and sentenced to 40 years in prison, while the remaining accomplices were sentenced to 5 to 7 years in prison for homicide.

In the first trial, Lee ordered a total of 49.07 million won in compensation, but the state did not accept the responsibility for compensation, and in the second trial, only the responsibility of the perpetrator was recognized.
