SBS coverage revealed that 'cow tuberculosis', a livestock epidemic, has spread at Seoul Grand Park Zoo since May of last year, and that until recently dozens of rare animals were euthanized.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Environment are conducting an epidemiological investigation.

This is the 'South America Pavilion' that collects animals native to South America in Seoul Grand Park.

Even the control line has been put around, but the suspension of viewing is one year and four months as of today.

The reason the South American Pavilion was closed was confirmed as a result of SBS coverage that it was due to 'Ruber tuberculosis', a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to humans.

Bovine tuberculosis, a common disease in wild animals, is transmitted through the respiratory tract or feces, and it is difficult to detect and treat symptoms.

Since right tuberculosis bacteria emerged from the carcasses of animals that died in the South American Pavilion in May of last year, a total of 44 animals have been euthanized because of positive or dangerous right tuberculosis.

Last Thursday alone, a total of 27 animals, including endangered species, were mass euthanized in the South American Pavilion.

Among them, an anteater with a transaction price of more than 100 million won was also included.

Seoul Grand Park said that animals that were infected or at high risk of infection were euthanized to prevent infection by zoo staff and to prevent the spread to other animal viewing facilities.

The reason is that the possibility of human infection is extremely low, and the current zoo-related laws do not specify the disclosure of disease-related information.
