There are a number of cases of people being unfairly sued for payment errors while refilling gas at self-service gas stations.

The police urged caution, saying, "There are cases in which payment is made with the card that was originally inserted even if you take out the card that someone left in the fueling machine and then insert your own card and refuel."

On the 6th, Mr. A, who visited a self-service gas station in Bucheon, found a credit card plugged into the gas station while trying to refuel.

Someone put oil in front of Mr. A and left the card and receipt as they were.

Mr. A took out the card and receipt, handed it to the gas station staff, and then inserted his card and added oil.

Ten days after that, on the 18th, Mr. A heard an absurd story from the police that he was being sued for card theft.

It was that the owner of the card sued A because 80,000 won worth of oil that Mr. A put in at the self-service station was paid with someone else's card that Mr. A pulled out instead of Mr. A's card.

Mr. A, who was accused of a fraud, went to the police station several times and luckily was cleared of the frame.

This was because the scene where Mr. A took out the card and put his card in and refueled remained on the CCTV of the gas station.

Person A said, "The card owner, who insisted not on withdrawing the complaint, eventually admitted that it was a payment error, not intentionally, and ended up returning 80,000 won." It wasn't," he said.

Similar incidents occurred one after another in Gijang-gun, Busan, in June.

After visiting a self-service gas station, Mr. B entered 80,000 won into the gas station amount input box and found someone else's check card plugged in.

However, the amount was paid with a check card that was left by someone other than B's card, and the check card owner sued B for fraud.

An official from the Busan Gijang Police Station said, "If someone leaves a card in the self-service gas dispenser, and if the next visitor has already selected the card on the payment method selection screen before discovering the card, "It is a situation in which good people are being investigated one after another and their investigative power is wasted," he said.

Busan Gijang Police Station has sent a letter of cooperation to the Korea Gas Station Association stating that the self-service gas station payment system needs to be supplemented as cases of unfairly sued for errors in self-service gas station payment.

In 2019, an office worker who found someone else's card at the self-service gas machine payment stage, replaced it with his own, and refueled, was charged with fraud and theft, but was acquitted.

At the time, the court ruled not guilty, citing the circumstances, "Due to the method of operating the self-fueling machine, even if you change the credit card before the payment process, the payment is still made with the original card inserted."
