A 20-year-old man who was handed over to trial on charges of forcing his successor to shower with him while serving in the military and violating harsh language and sexual harassment was sentenced to a suspended sentence of imprisonment.



According to the legal circles today (23rd), the 11th Criminal Division of the Daejeon District Court (Chief Judge Park Heon-haeng) sentenced A (22), who was charged with forcible molestation of a soldier, to 1 year and 6 months in prison and 3 years of probation.



Mr. A, serving in the Air Force from December 2019 to September last year, is accused of forcing his successors to exercise, eating and showering together, and threatening and verbally abusing his successors who do not follow them.



In the shower, Mr. A said to his successor, who wanted to have Corporal B (21) and C (20) touch a specific part of their body or to go to the hospital because their hand hurts, "The concept of a private person comes to the senior dormitory and talks separately. No,” he swears.



During the trial, Mr. A claimed that it was a simple game of water, but the victims stated that they did not disobey for fear of retaliation and bullying, even though they were ashamed.



Regarding the reason for the sentencing, the court said, "The victims suffered considerable psychological pain." "Even though the accused's crime is serious and the possibility of reproach is high, there is a need for severe punishment by claiming that it was a joke or a correction of the hierarchy."


Military sexual offenses more than tenfold in five years

Meanwhile, a survey result showed that the number of sexual assault cases in the military has increased rapidly over the past five years.
