Kim Byung-chan, who killed a woman who was stalking with a knife at the end of last year, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, five years longer than the first trial.

The bereaved family said that the victim also lost his life to the national protection system, such as a smart watch, and called for fundamental structural improvement to prevent the tragedy from repeating.

In November of last year, Kim Byung-chan murdered his ex-girlfriend.

He stalked the victim for five months and even received a restraining order from the court. He went to the victim and stabbed him to death a dozen times for reporting a crime.

[Byungchan Kim/Defendant (November of last year): (Do you admit planned murder?) I'm sorry.

(Why did you keep stalking when you were banned from access?) I'm sorry.]

The first trial sentenced Kim Byung-chan to 35 years in prison, but the second trial judge broke this and sentenced him to 40 years.

The court of appeals admitted all the charges against Kim Byung-chan, and determined that it was not an accidental murder, but that he was murdered for the purpose of retaliation out of anger due to the victim's report.

He continued, "If you look at the reflection sent by the defendant to the first trial court, there is a content that says, 'Even if you do well a hundred times, if you do it wrong once, it's a pity that everything is considered my fault.' The

victim's family appealed that Kim Byung-chan should be put to death, and also discussed the responsibility of the state.

[Victim's mother: The Republic of Korea should take responsibility.

(Daughter's smart) watch, I reported it.

(Nevertheless, the police) didn't come.

Korea should take responsibility for our daughter's death...

.]

He also raised his voice that the fundamental system must be changed so that the tragedy does not repeat itself again.

[Victim's younger brother: My sister did everything she could do with the system now, but that's how it came to be.

So it has to be changed systematically.]
