I've been told many times that it's difficult to get a taxi late at night.

It is known that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will soon come up with measures to resolve late-night traffic congestion in Seoul and the metropolitan area.

It seems that it will include content to raise taxi fares and improve the treatment of drivers so that more taxis go into operation.

In addition, there is interest in whether shared mobility platforms such as 'Tada' will be allowed again, and we need to see how effective these measures will be.

There is a reaction that the city of Seoul will not change much about the proposed taxi fare increase, but reporter Nam Jung-min covered the reason.

A taxi company in Seoul once had close to 100 taxis, but as the number of drivers decreased, 40 of them were deregistered or scrapped.

A plan to increase taxi fares, such as an increase in late-night surcharges in addition to a 1,000 won increase in the basic fare, has been proposed, but the expression of the drivers is not bright.

Under the current pay system, the rate increase does not come back to the drivers.

[Kim Jin-soo / Taxi company union leader: Even if you earn 20,000 won a day, on the 26th, that is 520,000 won.

That's a decent number, but the face value of 520,000 won doesn't come to me as a share of the workers, absolutely.]

The full management system, or taxi salary system, was introduced two years ago to guarantee a stable salary.

Regardless of sales performance, the basic salary of 1.9 million won is guaranteed every month and any excess earnings above a certain threshold are shared with the company. they say

[Taxi Driver: If you raise the (fare) again now, the (base rate) will go up even more.

Then it will be difficult for the articles to fit in the current state.] It is also

pointed out that the current salary system is actually no better than the old private payment method in terms of income.

[Ahn Ki-jeong / Research Fellow, Transportation System Lab, Seoul Research Institute: (In the case of corporate taxis), because the company has the upper hand, there are many cases in which workers are unfavorably signed, and entering an individual company is even more speculative.

] In order to bring taxi drivers back, the government and local governments need to set clear standards and supervise the taxi company's income distribution method, not just raising the fare.
