A group of foreigners who smuggled fake license plates from Thailand and distributed them in Korea were arrested by the police.

Today (21st), the narcotics crime investigation team of the Chungbuk National Police Agency arrested three people, including a Thai man A (42), on charges of violating the Automobile Management Act, and booked 21 people who purchased license plates without detention.

Mr. A's group is accused of selling 126 sets of counterfeit license plates in Thailand around July of last year, deceiving them with cleaning items and clothing, and then selling them to 110 foreigners residing in Korea through SNS.

Police confirmed that they were selling for hundreds of thousands of won per set of counterfeit license plates, earning a total of 50 million won worth of unfair profits.

As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that buyers were driving with counterfeit license plates attached to cannon cars, and some of them were engaged in various crimes such as drug sales and hit and run in traffic accidents.

The drug crime investigation team caught the situation where counterfeit license plates were used in the process of arresting foreign drug dealers in June, and they followed the route for three months and caught them.

The police have recovered 29 sets of counterfeit license plates that have been distributed, and the already distributed license plates have been wanted across the country.

Shin Ji-wook, the head of the Drug Crime Investigation Unit, said, "If you find a vehicle suspected of having a fake license plate attached, please report it to the police."
