Water and coal suddenly poured down from a coal mine in Taebaek, Gangwon-do, and one person went missing.

It appears that the missing person evacuated others first and then did not manage to get out.

The coal mine where the accident occurred is one of the last four remaining coal mines in Korea.

Accident handling vehicles, including the 119 rescue team, go around the tunnel without a break.

Coal dust scatters around the area, making it difficult to tell even an inch ahead.

The accident occurred at the Jangseong Mining Complex of the Korea Coal Corporation in Jangseong-dong, Taebaek-si, around 10:10 am today (14th).

Water and coal poured from a tunnel 75 meters underground, and the 46-year-old miner A was buried.

[Kim Gil-han/Director of Jangseong Mining Plant: This is a situation where the production manager is buried as water (water leaks out) during the inspection of the workshop to check the risk factors.]

According to eyewitnesses, Mr. A was inspecting the mine before mining. When a heavy water leak was discovered, six workers were evacuated first.

However, it is known that he was in an accident because he could not get out of it.

It is presumed that the missing person was swept away and buried by bamboo charcoal.

When the accident occurred, the mine's own rescue team and 119 rescue workers were put in to rescue.

The mining company is investigating the cause of the accident because the water drained from the wet coal at the top of the tunnel.

[Kim Jae-seok / Taebaek Fire Chief: The Jangseong Mining Plant's own relief team is doing rescue work.

When we rescue a missing person, we will immediately transfer him to the hospital...

The police and the Dongbu Mine Safety Office are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and whether the mines have neglected the management and supervision of the witnesses at the time.
