is a telegram sent by then-Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai to Soviet General Stalin on July 2, 1950, right after the outbreak of the Korean War.

Until now, only the part of the entire telegram that said that China would join the war if the US military crosses the 38th parallel has been known.

However, when the Korean Peninsula Research Center of Peking University obtained and confirmed the full telegram, China's intention was completely different.

At that time, China was the first to propose a peaceful solution through the United Nations.

This means that China agrees to join the United Nations and discuss issues on the Korean Peninsula.

China believes that the next US troops will land in Busan, Masan, and Mokpo, and insisted that North Korean troops occupy Daejeon, Geumsan, and Daegu in advance, on the way north.

If the U.S. military fails to land or advance northward, China has no reason to participate in the war, showing a passive attitude toward participation in the war.

[Zhou Tianyu / Researcher, Center for Korean Peninsula Studies, Peking University: If these two measures are passed, in fact, China does not need to send troops.

This is the main content of the telegram, which shows China's passive attitude toward dispatching troops.]

In the last telegram, China said that it would join the war if the US forces cross the 38th parallel, but also attached a clue to this.

The Soviet Air Force asked for cover, but at that time, the Soviet Union did not want to collide with the United States, so the research team determined that this was also an impossible request.

It is the first time that Zhou Enlai's full telegram containing such content has been published.

The research team said that China had been contemplating participating in the Korean War until the last minute, but made the final decision based on North Korean information that the US military would stop advancing from Pyongyang to Wonsan.

They decided that they could easily secure the northern part of North Korea without fighting the Americans.

As it is newly revealed that China was reluctant to participate in the Korean War in the early stages of the Korean War, it is expected that it will be possible to re-examine the blood alliance between China and North Korea.
