Prosecutors investigating the case of a public official who was shot and killed by a North Korean military in the West Sea two years ago summoned and investigated a former high-ranking member of the National Intelligence Service, suspected of being involved in the deletion of reports related to the incident at the time of the attack.

The Seoul Central Prosecutor's Office's Public Investigation Division 2 summoned and investigated Mr. A as a suspect yesterday (1st), who served as the chief of staff of former National Intelligence Service Director Park Ji-won.

Mr. A is suspected of delivering to the working-level staff after receiving instructions from former Director Park to delete the internal intelligence report of the National Intelligence Service immediately after being attacked by a public official in September 2020.

Prosecutors seized and searched the residence of former Director Park last month, and sent investigators to Mr. A's home to secure relevant data.

Based on the intelligence at the time, the NIS believes that an internal report was prepared stating that there is a high possibility of drifting rather than voluntarily defecting to North Korea, and it is believed that former Director Park ordered it to be deleted.

Former Director Park completely denied the allegations, saying that there was no instruction to delete it.

As the prosecution summoned Mr. A, who was the chief of staff, it is predicted that the investigation of former Director Park will be conducted soon.

Prosecutors plan to examine the decision-making process of the North Korean and security lines at the time based on the Blue House documents kept in the Presidential Archives, and then investigate key defendants, including former Director Park.
