There is a former prison guard who collects scrap paper for nearly 20 years after retirement.

It is to share the money earned by collecting waste paper to neighbors in need, and it is said that they have donated over 100 million won so far.

Reporter Baek Woon listened to the story.

Sang-il's day starts early in the morning.

The cart is full of the waste paper you picked up.

8,700 won was earned from selling waste paper today.

The amount raised this year alone exceeded $500,000.

But all this money is being collected for donations.

[Lee Sang-il / Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do: 8-9 million won, 10 million won per year.

It's about $500,000 now.

My goal this year is 6 million won.]

Mr. Lee worked as a prison guard for 33 years and after retiring, he has continued to pick up waste paper and donate it.

It's been 19 years.

[Lee Sang-il / Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do: I went to a total of 27 facilities, including nurseries, nursing homes, facilities for the disabled, from Incheon to Uijeongbu.]

That means 50 years of experience in sharing.

[Lee Sang-il / Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do: Even in my mother's (no money) life, I try to give someone a spoonful of rice, and we can't eat it either.

That's what I learned from her mother.]

The eyebrows that I shaved by myself.

It contains his heart for the leprosy patients he met during his volunteer work.

[Lee Sang-il / Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do: (Lungen disease patients) did not have eyebrows.

If I want to become one with those people, I shave my eyebrows, and when I go there, I shave my hair very short.] While

living as a civil servant, picking up waste paper and donating money alone exceeded 100 million won, but Mr. Lee has another goal.

We are collecting 1,000 500 won coins engraved with cranes instead of 1,000 paper cranes that cannot be folded, praying that the needy will be reduced even a little.

[Lee Sang-il / Anyang-si, Gyeonggi-do: A lot of people say that if you fold one crane and fold 1,000, your wish will come true.

I can't fold 1,000 cranes with my dexterity, so I pick up a box and when I get money, I collect 1,004 500 won coins and pray that there are no people in need in this society.]
