Germany's DK News reported that the WHO World Health Organization advisory group recommended for the first time a second booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine for the elderly.

However, the WHO's immunization advisory group, an expert strategic advisory group, said that the age group for the elderly for which the second booster shot is recommended should be autonomously determined according to the circumstances of each country.

Kravioto explained that this recommendation does not imply that a booster vaccine should be given on a regular basis every 4 to 6 months.

He added that healthcare workers, people with respiratory problems or a weakened immune system, are advised to get a second booster shot, regardless of age.

The United States has already recommended the second booster shot for adults over the age of 50 since May, and Germany also advised last month that people under the age of 60 should receive a booster vaccine.

A second booster shot is the fourth dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
