Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Won-seok was appointed as the next prosecutor-general candidate who had been vacant for more than 100 days after the resignation of the former president.

This candidate is classified as the Yoon Seok-yeol division as the head of the Planning and Coordination Department of the Supreme Prosecutor's Office in 2019, assisting then-President Yoon Seok-yeol.



As a member of Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon and the Judicial Research and Training Institute, he participated in several investigations of large corporations such as the Samsung Everland convertible bond case in 2005 and the Samsung slush fund case in 2007.



In response to the worrying assessment of being an aide to the president, Lee emphasized neutrality.

It is known that this candidate has been evaluated for his stable management of the prosecution organization as acting deputy for the past three months while the president is vacant.



At the personnel hearing, it is expected that opposition lawmakers who have expressed their reluctance to use the Yun division and special forces will be on the offensive.



In the course of the judicial Nongdan investigation, the controversy that the investigation situation was delivered to the judge of the Court Administration Office during the investigation of Jung Woon-ho's gate in 2016 is also expected to become an issue.



After the appointment, investigations targeting former government officials, such as the attack on the West Sea, must be completed, which is expected to serve as a test bed for evaluating the neutrality that has been emphasized on its own.



President Yoon appointed Han Ki-jung, a professor at Seoul National University Law School, as the new Fair Trade Chairperson candidate, following Song Ok-ryeol, who resigned over sexual harassment allegations.
