23 years ago, a suspect accused of killing a lawyer in Jeju was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

This case was also aired several times on SBS 'I want to know', and although the verdict was acquitted in the first trial, the judgment of the appeals court was different.

This is from JIBS reporter Chang-Hoon Ha.

On the morning of November 5, 1999, Lee Seung-yong, a former prosecutor, was found dead in his car.

However, he did not find the culprit in the end and remained as a representative long-term unsolved case in Jeju.

But the reverse happened.

Because after 20 years, someone who claims to have taught murder has appeared.

[Murder teacher's claimant, Mr. Kim (call content): Actually, I had no intention of killing him from the beginning.

I just gave this lawyer an order like this to just give me my soul.]

The police re-investigation began, and in the end, Mr. Kim was charged with murder.

In the first trial, he was acquitted.

Kim's testimony raises suspicions that he may have participated in the crime, but most of the evidence from the prosecution consists only of possibilities and assumptions, making it difficult to prove murder.

However, the Court of Appeals decided otherwise.

The court found him a co-author, that is, an accomplice, and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

Mr. Kim ordered his accomplice Mr. Son to commit the crime, but knowing that Mr. Son would use a weapon is at least an unwritten recognition that could lead to death and was seen as acceptable.

He kept the original sentence of one year and six months in prison for the part he threatened reporters.

[Kyung-song Ko / Senior Attorney General Lee Seung-yong: (The victim's family) It's been 23 years.

Although the sentence is too small compared to that, I am grateful that he was able to be convicted.]

Although the Supreme Court's decision still remains, the decision of the appeals court allows the lawyer's murder case to be freed from a permanent unsolved case in Jeju area after 23 years. .
