A union member of the Jogye Order, who was going to hold a one-man protest in front of Bongeunsa Temple in Gangnam, Seoul, was gang assaulted by men in monk uniforms.

Also, after having an accident while driving on a rainy road, the driver who stole the victim's vehicle and ran away was caught by the police.

It turned out that he was an active-duty soldier who was on vacation.

A man in a monk's robe threatened to hit Mr. A in everyday clothes, and then another man in a monk's uniform grabbed Mr. A's neck and knocked him to the ground.



The person who was assaulted was a member of the Jogye Order's union, and after being fired from his position as a servant in January, Ja-seung, the former general secretary of the Jogye Order, has been holding a one-man protest since last month saying that he has virtually taken control of the Order.

police have arrested a male in a monk's uniform who took part in the assault as a suspect and are planning to investigate soon.

Shortly after, the car crashed into an SUV in a tunnel, stole the victim and ran away.



The accident occurred at around 3:30 pm yesterday near the Namanseong Interchange on the Pyeongtaek Jecheon Expressway.



[Park Jung-hwan/Reporter: I was driving between vehicles in a state where I could not see ahead, and I think the accident happened shortly thereafter.]



The driver who caused the accident was none other than B, an active duty soldier in his 20s who went on vacation.

Mr. B was arrested in about 40 minutes by the police and citizens who responded to the report.



Police said the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and had been handed over to the military police.
