A woman in her 50s, who went missing after falling into a manhole in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, on the night of the 8th when torrential rain fell in Seoul, was found dead in Banpocheon Stream, a total of 6.3 km from the accident site.

According to the fire department and police on the 12th, the Banpo Rescue Team found the body of a woman in her 50s at around 10:30 last night in Banpocheon Stream near Dongjak Station in Dongjak-gu, Seoul.

The woman who died was swept away with her brother into a manhole on a road in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, around 10:50 p.m. on the 8th when heavy rain poured, and her brother was found dead in a manhole near a bus stop in Seocho-dong on the 10th two days later.

The body was found at a distance of 4.6km in a straight line from the point of disappearance and 100m ahead of the Banpocheon Stream leading to the Han River.

“When the road is full of water due to heavy rain, the manhole is not visible with the naked eye, so it is best for citizens not to move, and it is better to wait (rescue) away from the rain,” said Cho Hyun-joon, head of the Seocho Fire Station’s public relations and education team.

Until today, three out of four people who went missing due to heavy rains in Seocho-gu were found dead.
