The number of people who have already been infected with Corona is increasing significantly.

If you look at people who were reinfected last month, on average, five months after the first confirmation, they contracted the corona again, and half of the reinfections came from people under the age of 17.

Reporter Hyung-woo Jeon reports.

There were a total of 142,513 people infected with Corona twice until last month.

In particular, in the third and fourth weeks of last month, when the epidemic started in earnest, about 56,000 people came out, which is close to 40%.

The proportion of confirmed cases also soared from 2-3% in June to 6.59% in the third week of July.

The first infection and the second infection, the interval was also shortened.

Until last June, the average was 229 days and a little over 7 months, but if you look at the month of July alone, it is 5 months, which is about two months earlier.

The share of BA.5, which has high propagation power and immunity evasion power, increases, because the immune effect decreases over time.

When we analyzed the infection virus, 36.5% were infected again this year with the original omicron, BA.1, and re-infected with the stealth micron, BA.2.

Quarantine authorities explained that even reinfection can reduce the risk of occurrence through vaccines.

[Kyung-ran Paik/Director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: The risk of (re-infection) is reduced by about half for those who have completed the second vaccination, and the third vaccination is reduced by half compared to the second vaccination.]

Half of the reinfection cases in July were in the unvaccinated group, and by age, those under the age of 17 accounted for 49.2%.

The quarantine authorities said that the reinfection rate in the UK has recently risen to 20% of the confirmed cases, and predicted that the number of reinfection cases in Korea could steadily increase in the next two or three months.
