Businesses who do not pay health insurance premiums and national pension premiums are registered as 'defaulters of financial debt' and face significant disadvantages in financial transactions such as suspension of loans.

Financial debt defaulter is a term that was replaced in 2005 when the term “debt-debtor” was abolished.

The National Health Insurance Corporation announced today (9th) that it will also provide the Korea Credit Information Service with information on arrears of businesses that have arrears in health insurance premiums and pension insurance premiums from August 29 this year.

An official from the collection management department of the NHIS said, "For businesses that have been delinquent for insurance premiums and annuity insurance premiums of 5 million won or more a year, respectively, for more than one year, related delinquency information will be sent to the Korea Credit Information Service once a quarter and four times a year from now on. We decided to provide it,” he said.

The NHIS plans to send out a preliminary guide containing these plans.

The National Health Insurance Corporation is an integrated collection agency of the four major social insurances, including the National Pension, Employment Insurance, and Industrial Accident Insurance, as well as health insurance.

When delinquency information is registered with the Korea Credit Information Service, it is classified as a defaulter on financial debts, and the representative of the business is unable to make new loans and is restricted from issuing and using credit cards. receive

Prior to this, the NHIS and the Korea Credit Information Service signed a business agreement on the 3rd to encourage voluntary payment of health, pension, employment, and industrial accident arrears premiums and to share information on arrears of business establishments and arrears of unreasonable profits in order to enhance the financial soundness of health insurance. We have decided to actively cooperate with each other to carry out these projects without any setbacks.

The Korea Credit Information Service is the only comprehensive credit information concentrating institution in Korea that was launched in January 2016 with the permission of the Financial Services Commission to take over the credit information concentration and utilization business from the National Federation of Banks.

This institution intensively manages and utilizes credit information and public information provided by all financial institutions and public institutions such as banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, securities companies, specialized credit financial institutions, savings banks, cooperatives, and village safes.

In the case of employment insurance premiums and industrial accident insurance premiums among the four major social insurance premiums so far, NHIS has provided delinquency data to the National Association of Banks, etc. .

Since 2016, the NHIS has proposed to the Korea Credit Information Service several times to provide data on arrears to businesses in arrears in health insurance premiums and pension insurance premiums, but the Korea Credit Information Service has been unable to provide such data.

In the future, the NHIS expects to have a significant collection effect by handing over the data on arrears of health insurance premiums and pension premiums to the Korea Credit Information Service.

For example, on May 29, 2020, the National Health Insurance Corporation notified the Korea Credit Information Service of its plan to provide data on arrears in employment and industrial accident insurance premiums in the first quarter of 2020, thereby encouraging 388 delinquent business owners to pay employment and industrial accident insurance premiums within the set time limit. .

As of the end of 2021, 396 business sites have accumulated arrears of KRW 1883.7 trillion in arrears at business sites that have not paid health insurance premiums for more than one month, excluding local subscribers.

Among them, the accumulated amount of arrears amounted to KRW 944.3 billion at 63 business sites that had been in arrears for more than one year.

In addition, 78 business sites with large arrears of more than 5 million won a year accounted for a large proportion of the accumulated arrears amounting to 1.4 trillion won.
