An organization that received 60 billion won from about 60,000 people was caught by the police by tricking them into predicting lottery winning numbers through artificial intelligence (AI) analysis.

The Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency announced today (9th) that they arrested 52 people on charges of fraud and violation of the Fair Labeling and Advertisement Act and arrested 4 of them, including A (58) and B (45).

From July 2012 to June this year, they operated 92 'lottery winning number prediction service sites' and are accused of extorting 60.7 billion won from 64,104 victims.

They used a technique to deceive victims by posting pictures of major lottery winnings, such as lottery tickets, photos of winning payouts, and phrases such as 'thank you' on the site.

There was also a technique of secretly replacing the predicted winning numbers provided to members with the actual winning numbers immediately after the lottery draw was broadcast.

As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that the lottery numbers they advertised as predicted through AI analysis are actually only numbers randomly combined by five members of the organization.

In addition, they tricked users into paying millions of won by tricking them that there was a special high-priced service that gave them a number with a higher chance of winning.

Some of the victims paid about 70 million won.

Earlier, from April of this year, the police also investigated victims who filed a complaint with the Korea Consumer Agency after receiving a report from 'Companion Lottery', an official consignee that sells lottery tickets, that there is a site that manipulates winnings and makes false advertisements. came.

In addition, in order to prevent further damage, the Korea Communications Standards Commission has requested to delete or block the lottery winning number prediction service site, and the decision has been made to stop using the sites since the 2nd.
