The last news today (the 5th) is the story of the Nakdong River.

The water quality of the Nakdong River is at an all-time low amid heatwave and drought.

The whole river is dark green.

The water in the wine glass is thick like porridge, covered in green algae.

This is what the Nakdong River looks like. From yesterday, experts and members of environmental groups such as the Korean River Society and Environmental Movement Association started investigating the status of algae in the Nakdong River.

Environmental groups pointed out that 'green algae has spread from the Sangju Weir, the most upstream of the Nakdong River weir, to the lower reaches of the estuary's bank.'

Some Nakdong River fishermen complained, "If you fish for 2-3 hours, you get a headache and even vomit."

The Nakdong River water is used by more than 10 million citizens in five metropolitan groups including Busan, Gyeongnam, and Daegu.

Although the Ministry of Environment and local governments are saying that tap water is safe even with advanced purification treatment, environmental groups are concerned that although it is below the standard, toxic substances produced by blue-green algae are also detected in tap water, raising concerns about drinking water.
